Acute Toxicity Test of Kopasanda (Chromolaena odorata L) Leaves Ethanol Extract Using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) Method
Abstract
Kopasanda (Chromolaena odorata L.) is one of the plants used empirically by the community as a burn medicine and antioxidant. Kopasanda plants contain flavonoid compounds, saponins, triterpenoids, alkaloids, and tannins. This study aims to determine the acute toxicity potential of the ethanol extract of kopasanda leaves using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method with concentrations of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm and sea water as a control. The death of Artemia salina Leach were observed for 24 hours which were carried out every hour for the first 6 hours then at 12, 18 and 24 hours. The results showed that the ethanol extract of kopasanda leaves had moderate toxicity with an LC50 value was 101.62 ppm.
