Abstract

The research about formulation and evaluation of niosomal gel of ethanol extract on sappan wood (Caesalpinia sappan L.), based on the variation of the gelling agent have been done. It aimed to obtain niosomal gel that have the best physical stabilities and it can be penetration rate after the niosom get into variantions of gelling agent. Sappan wood was extracted by maseration method with used ethanol 70%. The extract measured from its total phenolic contents, then formulated into niosom with using span 60 and cholesterol after that, the niosomal dispersion was evaluated for vesicle size, surface morphology and percent entrapment efficiency. Niosomal was entrapped into the variation gelling agent. Formulation of gel prepared by niosomal, propilenglikol, metil paraben, aromatic, water, and the variations gelling agent hidroxyethyl cellulose 3% (F1), sodium alginate 5% and CaCl2 ,02% (F2), and carbopol : TEA 1% : 1,5% (F3). The evaluation made on area of noisome gel that have gotten like the evaluation of physical stabilities before and after climatic chamber as 10 period of time like : organoleptic, pH, homogeneities, capacity of area, viscosity and in-vitro penetration test by using franz diffusion cell method and shed snake skin tiger as a membrane. The result of this research showed that niosomal of ethanol extract on sappan wood can made niosomal gel, the third formulations have the greatest physical characteristics, while according to the percentiles the total amount penetration rate on F2 that contain sodium alginate 5% showed it more high diffusion 54,86% as 6 hours of duration that F2 and F3 with the percent in each penetration rate 51,01% and 26,41%.
