Abstract

Turmeric (Curcuma heyneana Val & Zijp) contains flavonoid, essential oils and curcumin, which can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus. Kind of S. aureus is one of the bacteria causes of acne. Peel-off gel mask has chosen in the dosage form to facilitate its use and has better drug release. Carbopol 940 enhances the physical characteristics and diffusion of the active ingredient in the gel preparation. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of carbopol 940 in gel mask gel formulation contain turmeric extract that characterilized by physical stabilities (organoleptic test, homogeneity, dispersion, adhesion, viscosity, pH, drying time, and elasticity) and antibacterial activity against S. aureus. Carbopol 940 used as base with concentrations were 1.00% (F1); 1.25%(F2); and 1.75% (F3). Based on statistical test that carbopol 940 as gel base can significantly influence physical characteristics of formulation and antibacterial activity on peel-off gel mask pale turmeric extract.
