Formulation and Effectivity Study of Antipyretic Patch from Ethanol Extract of Bitter Melon Leaf (Momordica charantia L.)
Abstract
Bitter melon leaves contain flavonoids that has potential as fever-reducing medicines. The purpose of this study is to formulate patch preparations of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) extract and determine their efficacy as antipyretic agent. The patch was prepared with HPMC and PVP using solvent evaporation method. The antipyretic activity was tested subcutaneously with the concentration of 5% in 1 ml. The evaluation of preparation characteristics included organoleptic test, uniformity of weight, folding endurance test, loss on drying, and suitor test. The effectivity study showed optimum result at the concentration of 1% with optimum temperature decrease after 90 and 120 minutes.
